Visit to the Folks

This weekend, my little family and I went up north to visit my relocated folks. So I took a moment or two to sketch a picture or their home.

Cool project at work

That's right, I finally got a cool illustration project to do for my job! I won't go into detail, but I had to design two illustrations to be displayed at 18" x 24" for a tradeshow that would be used during a demonstration. I have included the finals, the mockups that I pitched and only one rough sketch, as I forgot to scan the first one at that stage. I have to tell you, I didn't get nearly the time I would have liked to complete these, as it was a hideous "Rush" job. I definitely had more planned for them.

Cool new Photoshop trick!!

I learned this neato trick for PS where you can make ordinary photos appear to be tiny models or minatures. Here are my first few attempts.

More Meeting Doodles

This first image is from last week, I was testing out my co-worker's turquise pencil in blue-then I inked it. He thought it looked like the lead singer for Midnight Oil, hence the lyrics.



This doodle was based on a 3CH instant "quick theme" which is a neat website that generates random topics for painting and drawing. The theme was: "A supersonic octopus reveals a police officer in the vestiges of a lost civilization". Here's a link:

New Work! continued...

Ok, I finally got back to work on this piece, having added the sky...



...and finished the old timer. Things are moving right along!



I did some more work on the old timer, added some blush and water stains from the rain. I only need to color one glove and his boots at this point...

Playing School

Today my Wife, Son and I attended a family party, and I got a chance to spend some time with my niece and nephew. We played "school" and today's class was Art. We all took some time and made some pictures. Mine is below, he's an "Elephant Person" and my niece said he was a "Mad" guy. She made a really cool alien up right off the top of her head! She's very talented and I was totally impressed with her creature! She kept it or I would have posted it also.

Tracking Thingee

Right about now I'm trying to install a thing to track my non-existent visiters. I have to republish to load it, and this is the only way I know how. Thank you for your patience.

New Work! (not the BIG IDEA tho...)

Ok, I've finished my sketches and it's ready to be painted. Check back soon to see how my first major digital paintwork turns out! (Oats crosses fingers and toes)



Progress marches on!


Here are the preliminary sketches for a piece I'm going to do in photoshop. Some of you might recognize the subject from an earlier meeting doodle. I actually plan to do the entire piece digitally, and these were done entirely in photoshop and I loved it! It was very liberating to draw without any consequences, very freeing. Anyhoo, included are the landscape rough, a close-up of the characters face, and a rough positioning draft for the character. I think I'm going to reduce his scale, as he is probably too big as is. Enjoy, and watch for updates as work progresses!

Pitchforks and Torches

I know, I know. When I started this blog I gave the impression that I would be posting more than just doodles and I will! I just need to set aside the time to scan my more substantial stuff. Also I have a BIG IDEA. I will post work pertaining to the BIG IDEA under that heading. Slowly but surely, patience dear readers! The content will come!
