A Special Gift...

Hi all, recently my Wife asked me to draw her up a custom "jigsaw puzzle" greeting card for a co-worker. She originally wanted to give her an actual jigsaw puzzle featuring an Oompa Loompa, but I guess it's hard to find a jigsaw puzzle featuring a 30 year old movie character. Anyhoo, here is my finished card. Done in pencil, pen and markers. After I completed it and was totally relieved I didn't make any blobs or mistakes, I really F'ed it up by spraying it with some permanent sprayfix. Needless to say, the pen bled everywhere giving it a permanent fuzzy appearance. I... was... pissed. I don't know what I was thinking, I guess it was force of habit. The markers didn't run, just the pen I did the basic outlines with. Well, whatever, enjoy!

Wow!

How's this for quick turnaround! Right after I posted my Superman pic(I had worked on that on and off for a week) I sat down with a new idea for another color study I had gotten from some wrapping paper I saw at work. Anyhoo, I always liked maroon and blue together(that's the combo on the wrapping paper) and the first thing that came to me was swaying palm trees against a blueblue sky with crystal clear waters... "sigh". Back to the pic! Anyway, I sat down and banged this out in an hour and a half. All that practice is starting to payoff!

Hey, Superman!

Hello helloo! I'm back again with another exciting practice image. This time I was inspired by the orange glow at sunset out my office building window, so what would be the best thing to see outside a high office window? Superman of course.

Enjoy!

Pages from the sketchbook

Hi all! Here are some pics from my sketchbook that I would like to share. A page of good assorted stuff, and a sketch of the Merritt parkway I did at the doctor's office. Hey! There is even a selfportrait included. Also, I did another colored pencil jobbie of my little tree dude.

Enjoy!

crankin' it out!

This is a sketch I started after a particularly striking trip to the curb to take out the garbage. The background is my view down my street, but thankfully, there is no creepy guy loitering in my front yard. I added the park gate as well, but we do have a street light! All in all about 3 hours spent, gotta get that time down!

Enjoy,

Commission

Hey all, been a while, but I have some really interesting stuff coming down the pike. First off is this piece which came about from a request from James for a gift for his boy. I tried to get a more cartoony look about it, and then I just went bananas and blew out that moon and clouds, I just couldn't help it. I also got some good tips and advice at ConceptArt, thanks to everyone over there. So, without further ado...

Colored Pencils

Here's an jazzy doodle I did on a 3x5 card with our department set of pencils. It's a pic of a little tree-dweller reaching out for a sunbeam.

Enjoy!

I'm "Back"!

Wow, long time no post! I have an excuse tho. I've been laid up with a ruptured disk, and only just recently been cleared to work again. Which includes art work as well, I was put on a strict no-sitting diet. But I'm back on the horse and the first major work of the break is my entry for the Blizzard Games art contest. I'm not sure if my entry went through last night, but I had 3 days to complete this. I hope you(and the judges) enjoy it! I will also try to scan in some of the sketches I did while horizontal, I did some neat King Kong sketches while I was watching the DVD. See ya soon!

Well, they extended the deadline, so I did some more touchup on my shaman...

New Sketch

Here's a traditional comics figure I started the other day. It had been awhile since I practiced my old Comics form. So, it was fun to be back!

Lunchtime Fun

Here is a quick Photoshop piece I did at lunch. It was inspired by our family picnic this weekend, and I thought to work it up on my drive into work today. Enjoy!

More Lunchtime fun! From Thursday...

Went for a walk today at lunch, it looked like this out, but was in the middle of our corporate area. This is what it would have been like in the park. I made this one as a email gift for my wife.

Comic project in progress post

Here is a nifty little progress set for the comic project I'm working on for my portfolio. I have the pencils, inks, and two stages of color. I'm putting together a completely separate site to host this project so when I finally finish this first page I will link it here for your enjoyment!

Finally! Workplace sketches return!

Sorry about the long absence, I've been working on my webcomic and comic book a lot and haven't been working on anything generic. I will post some stuff from those two projects when I have more content for them. Anyhoo, here are a couple recent things I've scratched onto paper during meetings(first one) or waiting around outside(second). BTW, the outside of our offices does NOT look like this. It was inspired by a bush.

Enjoy!

Another cool work project

Here is an illustration I got to do that was used in a sponsorship ad for a charity ball.

Enjoy!

Visit to the Folks

This weekend, my little family and I went up north to visit my relocated folks. So I took a moment or two to sketch a picture or their home.

Enjoy!

Cool project at work

That's right, I finally got a cool illustration project to do for my job! I won't go into detail, but I had to design two illustrations to be displayed at 18" x 24" for a tradeshow that would be used during a demonstration. I have included the finals, the mockups that I pitched and only one rough sketch, as I forgot to scan the first one at that stage. I have to tell you, I didn't get nearly the time I would have liked to complete these, as it was a hideous "Rush" job. I definitely had more planned for them.

Enjoy!

Cool new Photoshop trick!!

I learned this neato trick for PS where you can make ordinary photos appear to be tiny models or minatures. Here are my first few attempts.

New Photoshop painting

This is a painting I did yesterday for a new agenda design at work. It was modeled off a photo from the web.
