Oh my god!!

...I totally forgot to post my pics from the painting workshop I attended with James Gurney! It was an incredible experience where we painted for 3 days, in the studio and down at the Hudson River. The theme was Painting with Colored Light, so there were dramatic colors on all the models. I'll post some of the painting I did below. I can't believe I totally spaced on this...

Enjoy!

Finally, a summer project!

I finally got around to painting something after my workshop, so I picked a photo off the web and painted this the other night. Took about 4-5 hours total, and I really enjoyed it! I have another request lined up, and hopefully I can start it before school starts in September.

Enjoy!

PS. There's a shadow on the top from my easel...

It's Official

I painted my first self-portrait so I'm officially a painter. I should have painted more hair on my head...

More Naked People Then You Could Shake a Stick At.

Please find the following lessons: Foreshortening, Exaggerated Color and Sustained Pose. You may remember the subject for the Sustained Pose from earlier in the semester. Look how far we've come!

Enjoy,

Edge Control

This assignment was to practice our use of edges. As you can see there are some sharp edges where our focus is, and then further out and in soft areas, like the hair, the edges fade away...

Enjoy!

PS. I'm also including a midpoint photo because I thought it looked cool! A little look inside my process.

More Paintings...

The paint factory rolls on! I finished my first portrait and we have since moved on to Hands. This week, we'll be tackling feet, and then I'm not so sure. I haven't looked ahead. Well, enjoy!

By Request

Jace wanted me to draw a picture of him today in his Star Wars costume so he could color it. He then gave up on that and asked me to. Then he wanted me to add in another character with his arm around him. The result? TA DA!

PS. His review is at the bottom.

My School projects

School is back in session and I'm taking Intro to Painting: The Figure. That's right, more naked people. Here are some of the paintings I like so far. It fun learning to paint with Oils. It's not as annoying as I thought it would be, and for the most part, it's pretty fun. Hey, at least we have new photography to work from instead of the same old shots from Figure Drawing! The paintings are, in order:

Limited palette, 2 colors + Black and White

Live figure drawing, completed from the model in just over an hour

Masters study, Caravaggio

Reflected light study

Enjoy!

I MOTIVATED!!!

Classes started yesterday and I managed to finish my Winter Break project just in the nick of time! I actually did it! Woot! Attached is my first formal landscape, done in acrylics at 20" x 16". It's called "Summer Storm" and I based it off a picture I've had in my scrap file for a long time. It's not perfect, but I'm working on getting past that need and the fear that goes along with it. It's just a painting I like and I'll use the lessons I learned and mistakes I made to make better paintings! Speaking of which, get ready for more naked people, I'm taking Painting the Figure! and I'll be using oils this semester so that will be exciting too!

Enjoy!

My Second House Painting

Here is the second of the two house paintings I was commissioned to do for Christmas.

Enjoy!

Here's what I did this Semester

Well, technically it's last semester now, but I took Intermediate Figure Drawing, so you guessed it: Naked People. It was a bit retread-y, but I enjoyed it none-the-less. It was fun to try new things. Here are some examples. I really got into the white and black charcoal on toned paper action.

Enjoy!
